    What happened:

The Indian Council of Medical Research won the Gold Award at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2026 for its ICMR-MINDS project. The award was received in the category "Innovation by Use of AI and Other New Age Technologies for Providing Citizen-Centric Services." The AI-based platform helps frontline health workers screen and manage mental health and substance use disorders, even in areas with limited specialist care.

Where and When did it happen:

The award was presented during the 29th National Conference on e-Governance, held in Jaipur on 1–2 July 2026, by Jitendra Singh.

    Why this is important:

The recognition highlights India's growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in public healthcare. ICMR-MINDS enables non-specialist health workers to provide standardized mental healthcare and supports the integration of mental health services into primary healthcare, improving access in underserved areas.
