    Mizoram’s Natural History Museum notified as India’s 21st Designated Repository

    The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has notified the Natural History Museum (NHM), Mizoram University, as India’s 21st Designated Repository under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. The designation strengthens India's biodiversity conservation network by preserving authenticated biological specimens for scientific research and long-term conservation.

    Place and Time:

    Aizawl, Mizoram; 7 July 2026. The notification was issued following the recommendation of the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA).

    Why this is important:

    Located in the Indo-Burma Biodiversity Hotspot, the museum will preserve voucher and type specimens of flora and fauna, improve species documentation, and support biodiversity research, ecological restoration, and conservation in Northeast India.
