    Indian Army launched Operation HimSetu to rescue over 1,400 stranded people in North Sikkim

    Indian Army launched Operation HimSetu. It rescued over 1,400 people in North Sikkim after landslides and bridge collapse stranded them near Lachen.

    Trishakti Corps led the effort despite heavy snow. They evacuated 1,321 tourists and 84 locals in 48 hours. Troops built footbridges and set up aid centers.

    Army worked with BRO and officials. All were safely moved to Gangtok by April 9, 2026.

    Soldiers cleared snow and debris on tough terrain.
