Operation Numkhor in Spotlight at Upcoming India-Bhutan Customs Summit

Operation Numkhor, a major customs crackdown on luxury‑vehicle smuggling from Bhutan into India, will be a central topic at the upcoming Indo‑Bhutan Joint Customs Group and Integrated Border Management summit in Munnar from April 20 to 23.

Operation Numkhor is a nationwide customs drive led by the Customs (Preventive) unit in Kochi that targets smuggling of premium second‑hand vehicles through Bhutan, using forged documents and fake registrations in North Indian states. Authorities link it to a wider network of tax evasion and document fraud involving vehicle dealers and, in some cases, transport officials.

    Role at the India‑Bhutan summit

The India–Bhutan customs meeting will host a Bhutanese delegation in Kochi and Munnar to share intelligence and coordinate enforcement around Operation Numkhor.. Both sides plan to formalise evidence‑sharing and deepen joint border‑management efforts to curb smuggling and secure legal trade across the shared frontier.
