Operation Urja Suraksha is a strategic naval mission launched by the Indian Navy in March 2026 to protect India‑bound energy tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in West Asia.

The Indian Navy has deployed several frontline warships—destroyers and frigates—in the Gulf of Oman and around the Strait of Hormuz to escort and guide India‑flagged vessels carrying crude oil, LPG, and LNG.

A large share of India’s oil and gas imports travels through this narrow waterway, so any disruption could threaten energy security and fuel prices at home. The operation aims to prevent attacks on merchant ships and ensure safe, uninterrupted transit of at least 20–22 high‑priority energy vessels.
